We went to St. Andrews on a hot Saturday in May. I would recommend going on a weekday if you are there while school is in session and while it is warm out. It was beyond crowded and difficult to maneuver around. We only had a few hours in the afternoon so I don’t have any recommendations on food or hotels, but I wanted to give a short blurb on our experience in general.

Parking
We arrived via car so we had to find somewhere to park. I recommend parking in St. Andrews Public Parking lot. You don’t have to parallel park and it’s off the main road so you don’t have to fight traffic as much. But make sure prior to leaving the states you download and set up RingGo so when you arrive you can use it. My husband got a monthly international plan (I did not), but even with that we weren’t able to set up the app through his phone because of the US number and not being able to receive the code in that moment from an international number. So if you set it up before you leave, you shouldn’t have a problem. The other option is to use coins, but make sure you have them beforehand! We didn’t so then we were running around town trying to exchange our bills for coins since the ATM we used in Edinburgh only gave us bills with no coins.

St. Andrews Old Course
Once we parked, we started exploring the town. We walked the Old Course and enjoyed watching people play golf and seeing the historical sights. We loved just walking and taking it all in. Viewing the town from the course was gorgeous and seeing the bridge in person was honestly incredible. My husband loves to golf so we thoroughly enjoyed this experience.
Just make sure you stay clear of the paths when a play is in session. There are roads you can cross as golfers are changing holes, but do not remain on the road when being ushered to keep going. Please be respectful of the game, players, and property. This is an active golf course, not an amusement park.

The St. Andrews Golf Club
We popped in here to do some shopping since it was right next to the Old Course and was less crowded than the main street. We picked up some souvenirs and gifts for our family.
West Sands Beach
The town was so busy during our time here so instead of attempting to fight the crowds and get lunch, we decided to spend the hot summer day down by the beach. We waded in the water, looked at shells, and soaked up the sun before having to make the journey to Invergordon.
