We are foodies at heart and love traveling to experience new cuisine. Québec City did not disappoint with their food and we are so happy with all the locations we went to! We tend to do two large meals a day, breakfast and dinner, with snacks during the day. We also enjoy a pub or two in the evenings, especially when live music is involved. Dinner

Bistro St-Malo

We had our first dinner at Bistro St-Malo and this was by far our favorite restaurant of the entire trip. The restaurant was small and cozy and consisted of the perfect menu.  We enjoyed an appetizer of snails au gratin and on Wednesdays they have unlimited mussels so we specifically went this day so I could get them. My husband got Carbonara and loved it. This is my highest recommendation for food in Québec City!

D’Orsay Restaurant Pub

Our second night we ate at D’Orsay Restaurant Pub and really enjoyed it! Definitely in the tourist part of town, but Canada was play in the World Cup that night and we wanted a place to watch the match and eat. D’Orsay delivered the perfect location! I had the “Sunday Roast” Poutine and my husband had a Big Ben Cheeseburger. We also shared a shrimp cocktail for an appetizer. We ended up coming back here to watch some World Cup matches as well. Great pub food and fun energy during sporting events!

Chez Murphy’s

After traveling for a week straight we were craving our typical weekend dinner, pizza. We Found Chez Murphy’s and got a delicious flatbread pizza. We also always find an Irish pub anywhere we travel and this happened to be our second Irish pub of Québec City.

Breakfast

La Buche

I know La Buche can be hit or miss for some people, but I have to admit that this was a hit for us so much so we went back the morning we left for breakfast again! It was also really close to our hotel so the convenience really factored in there, but we thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast at La Buche! For our first breakfast, I got blueberry crepes and my husband got an omelette d’la grand-mere with breakfast potatoes. For our second breakfast, I got the cassolette du bucheron and my husband got the omelette d’la grand-mere again. It is such a cozy restaurant and the food is delicious. Highly recommend for breakfast!

Au Petit Chalet

Our second full day was supposed to be another rainy one, but it ended up being clear and beautiful! So we decided to walk up to Au Petit Chalet from our hotel and enjoy breakfast on the patio. This place was such a treat and unplanned, but we really enjoyed our breakfast here and felt full almost all day. I enjoyed The Flamboyant with Strawberries while my husband had their Western Omelet. There were loads of restaurants and shops along this strip too, so plenty to see and do after breakfast if you’re looking to explore.

Tim Hortons

I have to honorably mention the beloved Tim Hortons. Oh how I wish I had one in my home state.

Pub St. Patrick

La Cale of the Port of Québec

While down in the port, we stopped at La Cale of the Port of Québec. We loved this spot and wish it had been about 10 degrees warmer and a little sunnier! It’s basically a pool bar, but the water is shallow only allowing for you to put your feet in. Very cool concept and the vibes were fantastic even for a cooler, cloudy day. If you’re looking for a unique, fun spot I highly suggest checking it out!

Ninkasi Bar & Bistro

One tradition we’ve (my husband) started is doing Karaoke when we are traveling. I personally have massive stage fright when it comes to Karaoke (which if you knew me all through my life up until college, you’d be shocked to hear that), but my husband loves to do it. So we found Ninkasi Bar & Bistro in hopes of enjoying some Karaoke. Unfortunately they didn’t start until 10pm and after a day of walking almost 30,000 steps and a full day of travel ahead of us, we opted for a single drink on the patio and then heading back to the hotel. But this was a really nice bar and we met so many lovely people here! If you’re looking for a spot to end your night with a great patio, I highly recommend this location.

Sweet Treats

Cotard Chocolatier Glacier

While walking around Place Royale, we decided to stop for some ice cream. We got a delicious scoop from Cotard Chocolatier Glacier and ate in the square while people watching and taking it all in. Great ice cream and looked like delicious chocolate too!

LeVendome Gelato/Smoothie/Pâtisserie

After dinner at Bistro St-Malo we were craving a sweet treat. It was late in the evening so there weren’t very many places still open. Lucky for us, we had to walk through an area full of tourist shops and LeVendome Gelato/Smoothie/Pâtisserie was still open. It was by far not the best, but it was good enough for a late night sweet treat.

Île d’Orléans Food and Drink
